Trip gear lists
The heaviest thing you carry on an ice day is on your feet: about 6 lb of boots and crampons. On a hut night, the sleeping bag is the one piece where a few ounces cost real money.
An ice climbing day
From New England Mountaineering's rental list and Alpine Ascents' gear list.
| Item | Notes | Backed-up weight |
|---|---|---|
| Mountaineering boots | You bring them. Hiking and winter boots won't work. | Nepal EVO GTX pair: 4 lb 7.4 oz. Nepal Cube GTX pair: 3 lb 15 oz. |
| Crampons | 12-point steel with anti-balling plates. Often rented. | Petzl Vasak Leverlock Universal: about 1 lb 13 oz to 2 lb. |
| Harness, helmet, ice tools, gaiters | Included in New England Mountaineering's $79 rental package. | Not sourced |
| Extra warm jacket for belaying | New England Mountaineering asks for one. | Not sourced |
Boots plus crampons on your feet: about 6 lb 4 oz to 6 lb 7 oz with the Nepal EVO, and about 5 lb 12 oz to 5 lb 15 oz with the Nepal Cube. The ranges come from the spread in Vasak weights.

The "Not sourced" cells are the site's to fill, not yours. A weight goes in once it matches in two places. If one looks wrong, send a correction.
